Secret Boyfriend

End Of All

This is the music video I made for the song "End Of All" by North Carolina musician Secret Boyfriend , from his LP Listener's Guide that's been released by the label Enmossed in July 2024.

Most of the nature footage was shot by my dad around 2001 on our hi8 family camcorder. I edited it and combined it with more recent images I filmed of Secret Boyfriend with a Panasonic AG450 S-VHS camera. The full video was then overdubbed multiple times from a VHS tape to another until the image disintegrated. To digitize the analog footage, I used the Dazzle DVD Recorder DVC-100 (the red one), which is amongst the rare analog video capture devices to output uncompressed video while being very cheap.

Working on this has been moving for me since it implied diving back into sweet childhood memories recorded on tape. My dad passed a few years ago and I wanted to pay hommage to him through my work in some way, since he's always been very supportive of my creations.

He had these few tapes that were entirely dedicated to filming the lush nature in our backyard and surroundings and he patiently did that throughout the seasons and years... Secret Boyfriend's sensitivity really matched mine while I was revisiting all these archives.
